Notes for Poole FIELD Of Jerrings Hall, Shirley, Solihull, Warwickshire (now West Midlands), UK SP121762 ′The Fields of Jerrings Hall were sometimes referred to as ′of Blackford.′ Blackford House, Shirley Heath, for generations the name of the Beach family is nearby, and the immediate neighbourhood was often called Blackford. The Beaches were early makers of scales at Blackford, the business being later transferred to Digbeth, Birmingham, where it was a forerunner of the great firm of Avery. The Beaches being inter married with that family.′
There is an excellent history of Jerrings Hall written by Mary Singer and attached to Poole FIELD on Ancestry. In summary the land in the area north of Tanworth was being divided up and brought into agricultural use in the late 13thC. One of the tenants was Roger Gerin. Over the centuries the property became known as Geryn′s, Gerren′s, Jerren′s, and Jerring′s. In modern times the apostrophe has been dropped leaving us with Jerrings Hall. [Webmaster]
