Notes for John TOMES Farmer of 500 acres, employing 23 men & 5 boys. 'A man of literary attainments, but limited means.' Lived at Weston Sands from youth to death. Inherited part of TAYLOR’s North & South Littleton estate, which his sons in turn inherited. Will est: 'under £7,000'. [107]
John TOMES farmed Weston Sands for most of his life, assisted by his son William Baylies TOMES. After John died, William, as well as his brother, Robert, (who had previously been farming on his own, at Welford Hill Farm, just South of Welford) farmed there for a time, until at least 1871. By 1881 though it appears the farm had been sold as the brothers had retired and were then living in South Littleton. In 2010 the barns at Weston Sands had been converted into holiday homes. [107]
Notes for Sarah BAYLIES Will est: 'under £1,500'. [107]
