Family notes for Jesse ADKINS and Lucy COX Daniels p.63. Jesse and Lucy both died in unusual circumstances. Jesse was in the Army hospital at Louisa, Kentucky, seriously ill and Lucy rode a horse from Pikeville to Louisa to help take care of him. Jesse died on 9th April and Lucy on 13th April 1864. They are both buried in the Military Cemetery at Louisa. The cause of their deaths, as reported in the military records, was measles. The deaths and circumstances were sworn to by Ezekiel Prater, Harrison Ratliff and David Campbell, all of whom were at Peach Orchard at the time of the deaths of Jesse and Lucy.
Notes for Jesse ADKINS Enlisted on 19 November 1862 at Peach Orchard, Kentucky. According to his military records he was 5ft 8ins tall, of fair complexion, black or brown eyes and with dark hair. He was captured by the Rebels in Pike County, Kentucky, on 1st February 1863 and was reported as deserted in Floyd County, Kentucky, on 4th December 1863. [55]
