Notes for Sir John TOMES FRCS Apprenticed to a country surgeon at age of 20; went to London in 1836; Dental Surgeon at Middlesex Hospital 1840-74; MRCS 1859 & elected to FRCS, 12 Apr 1883 ('up to that time only three fellows had been elected under the 20 year rule'); knighted 1886 for his work in dentistry. Lived at Cavendish Square, London, & retired in 1887 to Caterham, Surrey. Assisted his brother with the 1887 TOMES Pedigree. Will est: £52,580 12s 5d. [107]
