Notes for John BURMAN Light Hall farm is very close to Jerrings Hall farm which was owned by Ester FIELD's
father, Richard FIELD, and he also owned Braggs farm just a bit further down the
road. The whole family were clearly very successful farmers. [Webmaster]
Richard FIELD b.1732 inherited Jerrings Hall, Shirley, Solihull, Warwickshire (now
West Midlands), UK SP121762, from his brother Poole FIELD b.1730 who was unmarried
(or Richard INSULL?). He also inherited nearby Braggs Farm, UK SP114756, from
Richard INSULL. There is some doubt in my mind about the original owner of Jerrings
Hall farm because Evelyn ADKINS who researched all this says, in different places in
her notes, that Richard FIELD inherited the farm from both Poole FIELD and Richard
INSULL. I doubt both are right, being in the same generation. And then there is
Light Hall farm (these farms are all within a mile of each other and may well have
shared boundaries) which was farmed by John BURMAN and Esther FIELD, daughter of
Richard FIELD. It is worth noting here that it may not have been the ownership of
the farms that was being inherited, but the tenancy. We need to research who the
actual owner was, but very possibly the Earl of . [Webmaster]
