Search family database

This page enables you to search for specific person and family records from the database. The output will be a list in the form of a selective Names index. You will then be able to display specific person or family records as required. It is possible to search for whole or part names, years of Birth, Baptism, Death, Burial, Marriage, Separation or Divorce with Earlier than, Equal to, After, or About Dates operators, or any Search string in any text field limited only by other parameters.
All fields are optional; providing no options will list all persons.

Please note - the search facility is in beta testing and may produce incorrect, or no, results in some circumstances. Search requests are being anonymously logged to aid error correction.

Names:

Lead with captal unless string is for random search in names

Combine Names with Events and/or Dates and/or Search string if required

Part names can be provided, minimum 3 characters. Case not considered

Events:
Birth/Baptism: Death/Burial:
Marriage/Partnership: Separation/Divorce: Clear event options:

If Dates are specified without Events, then Birth/Baptism is assumed

If Birth/Baptism or Death/Burial are specified Dates must be specified

If Marriage/Partnership is specified, Dates and/or Search string must be specified

If Separation/Divorce is specified without Dates all separated or divorced persons will be selected

If no Events but Search string and/or Names and/or Dates are specified, all events will be searched

If <, =, or > are selected then Year must be specified; About range is not considered

If Year is specified without <, =, >, or ~, then About ~ is assumed with About range

If About is selected then Year must be specified, and About range may be specified. Default is ±5 years

If all dates are to be included, leave all Date options unselected

Default will search all person/family text fields including Notes, but not date fields

Minimum 3 chars, except M, F, or U to search for gender

Tip: avoid strings with apostrophes or quotes

Text strings exceeding 15 characters will be truncated. Case not considered

Text matching the Search string will be highlighted in the resulting family displays

Please remember that a full database search can take many seconds!

Reset form - reset to previous texts and options

Clear form - clear texts to blanks and options to defaults

The following selections are alternatives and cannot be combined with selections above.

History search string:

Search all the history pages. Enter a history search string and click Search.

By default all eligible names on the database will be listed. However, you can display just the names resident in a particular country by selecting from the list (left) and clicking the Select button. Where a person has migrated from one country to another they are normally listed under the country they migrated to.

Sources

Primary only , Primary & secondary

Select a source to display all persons for whom the source is a primary/secondary source.

By default both primary and secondary sources will be selected.
