Notes for Ada Holland SMITH Noted embroiderer. Ada embroidered the bookplate pictured above as her personal bookplate, the original is in the Charles Hall Crouch collection of bookplates, held by the Society of Antiquaries of London. I am indebted to Anthony Pincott, Hon Treasurer of The Bookplate Society for bringing this item, together with family history, to my notice. [Webmaster]
By the 1911 census she was still single, aged 57, no occupation given, living with her cousin, Charles Bridges, age 64, engineer and iron founder, married to Emily Ada Bridges, aged 52. Ten years earlier, 1900, the census places her in Solihull as a visitor, occupation “living on own means”. Her parents are alive, elsewhere in Solihull.
